About Us

The Advocacy & Mooting Unit

The Advocacy & Mooting Unit is a unit subordinated to Law Students’ Society (Lawsoc) from School of Law, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Before coming into shape as a unit, our forerunner, the Moot Committee of UUM set its humble beginning as early as 2008. Since the establishment, we are given the mandate to promote mooting, search for new blood and train our mooters with equitable skills to be competent in the mooting arena across the nation and globe.

In this day and age, the UUM Advocacy & Mooting Unit is segregated into two components, the Moot Committee and the Reserve Team with their respective roles.

Moot Committee

The Moot Committee was established in 2013 led by our pioneer leader, Mr Sirwin Ooi. In every year, the moot committee would be selected through the way of passing baton from one tenure to another tenure to make sure that the mission of the mooting unit would be continued. This component is made up of a team of enthusiastic law students who plan, coordinate and execute activities, events as well as training for the advantages of UUM law students. Normally, the moot committee would be separated into a few departments which are the High Committee, Treasury, Marketing, Research & Development, Arts & Information Technology and Public Relation.

Reserve Team
Justice Scale

The Reserve Team is the ‘backbone’ of our UUM Advocacy & Mooting Unit. It is made up by a group of talented individuals which are the law students of UUM that are recruited through a selection process. Some consistent training will be given to the reserve team to ensure that they are well-trained and equipped with professional mooting skills. Occasionally, we would invite our alumni which have a great achievement in mooting competition to coach and share their experience with the reserve team. Fully fledged mooters will be representing UUM in external mooting competitions such as NAMCO, AIAC, IHL, Jessup and KL Bar Mooting Competition.
