International Commercial Arbitration Moot Championship (ICAMC) 2021
The International Commercial Arbitration Moot Championship 2021 (ICAMC 2021) is an arbitration-based moot that promotes the application of international trade law and alternative dispute resolution in relation to commercial disputes. It is the inaugural mooting competition organized by Advocacy and Mooting Unit Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and is a wholly run student initiative.
The fundamental purpose of ICAMC 2021 is to provide novice mooters an international platform to develop research and advocacy skills in a competitive setting as well as to encourage cross-cultural exchange of ideas and knowledge between students. In addition to this, the competition serves as a means to expose the new generation of legal practitioners to arbitration as an effective medium to seek resolution in circumstances in which the parties agree to refer their dispute to a neutral arbitral tribunal to decide their rights and obligations.
The organization of ICAMC 2021 has been supported by a myriad of esteemed individuals and organizations. This includes the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR) as well as student organizations of UUM, namely the Law Society of UUM (LAWSOC) and the Public Speaking Club of UUM (UCAP). The acclaimed law firm of Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill sponsored the execution of ICAMC 2021. Besides, both the written and oral rounds of ICAMC 2021 were adjudicated by an international panel of skilled and accomplished arbitrators, exposing students to simulated proceedings of the arbitration process and industry standards.
